Germany : PhD Scholarships-The Departments of Philosophy and Economics

The Departments of Philosophy and Economics at Hamburg University invite applications for three PhD scholarships (1100 Euro per month, tax free; up to three years) within the small graduate group (kleine Graduiertengruppe) "Modelling and normative assessment of collective decisions". The earliest starting date is 1st June 2012.

If suitable candidates are still in the process of finishing their Master's degree, a later starting date can be negotiated.

Ideally, candidates have a Master's degree in a multidisciplinary programme including at least two of the disciplines philosophy, economics, or political theory. Candidates with degrees in one of the disciplines or any related interdisciplinary field will also be considered. They should be interested in topics at the intersection of economics and philosophy. They should also be interested in collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
Residency in Hamburg or in commutable distance is expected.

Candidates are expected to finish a PhD thesis in an area related to the group's overall topic, and will be supervised by members of both departments. The graduate group offers extensive support. Candidates will present their research in regular workshops.

Please send an application (preferably by email), including a CV, an outline of your proposed thesis (3-4 pages) as well as an academic reference letter to Prof. Dr. Thomas Schramme, Department of Philosophy, Von-Melle-Park 6, 20146 Hamburg, thomas.schramme@uni-hamburg.de.
